Marvel Zombies, a new TV-MA rated animated spinoff series, is set to premiere globally on Disney+ on September 24, 2025, offering a grittier and more violent take on the Marvel Universe’s zombie apocalypse theme. The four-part miniseries builds on the zombie concept introduced in the previous Marvel animated show What If…?, but significantly ups the ante with intense gore, outlandish violence, and a storyline that explores darker facets of Marvel’s characters.

The newly released trailer showcases a blood-drenched world filled with zombified versions of popular superheroes, including Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, and others. Fans are also introduced to the new character Blade Knight, a Moon Knight-inspired iteration of the classic vampire hunter Blade, voiced by Todd Williams. This fresh take contrasts with the yet-to-debut Mahershala Ali portrayal of Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The miniseries boasts a star-studded voice cast featuring many returning MCU actors, including Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Elizabeth Olsen reprising Scarlet Witch, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and Awkwafina as Katy. Additional cast members include Hailee Steinfeld, Wyatt Russell, Randall Park, Iman Vellani, and Dominique Thorne, among others. This level of involvement from prominent actors emphasizes Disney’s commitment to expanding Marvel’s mature content under its streaming banner.

The presence of intense violence and gore marks a notable shift for Disney, historically known for more family-friendly content. This evolution aligns with the company’s recent acquisitions of Marvel and Fox, which have brought darker properties like the X-Men and Deadpool into the fold. Marvel Zombies stands out as one of the goriest Disney productions to date, reflecting the company’s willingness to diversify its offerings on Disney+ to include adult audiences.
